THE ODYSSEY - CHAPTER THREE HINTS

Remember, half the fun of the Odyssey is the challenge of using all your Civ2 Skills to assist in overcoming each obstacle. That said, it's better to use this file as an aid than to quit in frustration!

******************************************************************************************

Crazy Looking Terrain:

1) If you ran the batch file and selected "3", things will look crazy for one turn. Then a wave of black terrain will sweep across your screen and all will start to look normal again!

2) Ithaca still exists, but it and all around it is completely black. That's OK too.

******************************************************************************************

Athena:

1) Not much choice. Odysseus attacks Athena, dies, and is replaced by the Old Man unit.

2) There is no treasure, and you can't reach the the cave as it's guarded by an impassable unit. That's part of the real Odyssey, but not of this scenario.

3) Follow the road to the house of Eumaeus.

******************************************************************************************

Eumaeus/Telemachus/Melanthius:

1) In order for the Old Man to enter the house, Eumaeus must stand in the doorway first. Do something similar to get him into the middle of the room (he has to enter in order to attack the message unit).

2) Telemachus is now a land unit, and he needs to head for the house of Eumaeus right away.

3) The Black ship isn't supposed to move.

4) Don't try and attack the pigs. They are "atmosphere".

5) Telemachus and the Old Man must follow Eumaeus to get through the ZOC near the house.

6) Follow the road north and east, not the one Telemachus took.

7) The Old Man must attack Melantius.

******************************************************************************************

Outer Courtyard:

1) You can explore the terrain along the south road, but the real action is to the east.

2) The dog dies of old age. Entering the stables to pursue his "killer" would be a mistake!

3) Eumaeus can explore the empty rooms to the north and east, but there's nothing in them.

******************************************************************************************

The Palace/Inner Courtyard:

1) Telemachus and the Old Man must follow Eumaeus to get through the ZOC near the Palace Door.

2) Most of the Inner Courtyard is covered by invisible railroads (courtyard). This is very helpful for quickly scouting out the area.

3) All the Suitors are on the other side of the room, separated from you by impassable units.

4) The Old Man must attack Irus.

5) Make sure all four of your units; Philoetius, Telemachus, Eumaeus, and the Old Man are inside the Palace. This is no time for exploring!

******************************************************************************************

Tournament of Axes:

1) The Old Man must move to the Weapons Rack (airbase) near the front door, and then Paradrop onto the square next to the city called "Bow of Odysseus"

2) The Old Man can either capture the city OR attack the Row of Axes icon. He has enough strength and movement points for both. Safest would be city, THEN axes.

3) At least one of the first three arrows must be fired at a Greek Suitor.

4) You can't kill Suitor5, so don't bother trying.

5) The Old Man MUST die after the city is captured and the axes are killed (the sooner the better)!

******************************************************************************************

Battle with the Suitors:

1)You must protect the Bow of Odysseus, and the best bet is fortify Odysseus and possibly another unit together on the table at 150,18

2) Telemachus and Eumaeus are "land subs", so they can catch the spears coming out of the Armory. Shields are "Bomber" type units, and will keep you safe from all land attack.

3) The only way to protect Odysseus with a shield is to shuttle them to and from the rack at the front door. But if do that, you'll have to station one of the land units to protect it (Eumaeus or Philoetius)

4) Try to use your arrows and spears to kill groups of suitors, rather than singles.

5) The "named" suitors are the most dangerous and should be killed first, if possible.

6) Keep an eye on the Back Door! If the axe attacks (fighter against bomber) threaten to break through, you'll have to go protect it. That is very dangerous, but the consequences of a back door break through are deadly!!

7) The enemy spears are coming from Melanthius and the suitors side of the armory.

8) Tables are "forts" while the Table (singular) is high defense terrain.

******************************************************************************************

End Game:

1) The suitors get a continual replenishment of spears/axes in their weapons racks and at the table guarded by Melanthius. If you position YOUR missile units in the enemy weapons racks, that will stop the missile/axe attacks. One of your land units can do likewise at the table of Melanthius.

2) The insolent servants hiding outside the south wall will need to be attacked.

3) Penelope can guide Odysseus into her chambers to confront the final message unit.
